Thank you for your interest in staying at An Innkeeper's Place. Below is a brief history about how we became farmers and innkeepers in rural Connecticut a far cry from our life in urban Chicago!
Our family relocated from Chicago, Illinois to Stafford Springs, Connecticut in July of 2011 when my husband, Christopher Rhoads, accepted a position at the University of Connecticut at the Neag School of Education as an Assistant Professor. Chris received his PhD in Statistics from Northwestern University in 2008 and then stayed on as a Post-doctoral Fellow until his appointment at UCONN last year. He also holds an undergraduate degree from Haverford College in Philosophy and a master's degree in the Applied Mathematics of Statistics from SUNY Stonybrook.
My name is Danele Rhoads I earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania at The Wharton School of Business in 2000 after having a successful career as an optician, optical regional and national sales manager and member of Volunteer Services to Humanity (VOSH) providing aid to impoverished people around the world. Once graduated from Wharton I began a new career in accounting. I was an auditor during the sub-prime crisis for a two major banks and quickly ended my second career with the birth of our first daughter in 2004. I have been a stay-at-home mom (SAHM) ever since with the exception of my latest venture as an innkeeper which gratefully continues to afford the opportunity for me to continue to stay home with my three children.
We chose to live in Stafford Springs for many reason's: the beauty of Stafford, the quaint and historic downtown, the local organic CSA called Down to Earth Farm we now belong to, the proximity to UCONN and I-84 and of course the amazing Bed and Breakfast for sale during our housing search! The combination was too much for us to resist. We hope you feel the same after your stay and will return for another relaxing time in the Quiet Corner of New England.
We are a traditional European B&B in that we live in and raise our three children in our nearly 250 year old home. We describe our B&B "style" as European because when traveling in Europe and during my month long stay in Ireland I found children living in B&B's to be the norm but here in the States most B&B's do not even accept children as guests unless they are "well behaved" and generally over the age of twelve. Our children are well behaved (as children go) but they are very friendly and when in the common areas of our home you will likely meet them. They have separate quarters, of course, but you will likely encounter them if you choose to relax on the deck, walk in the yard or have a seated breakfast on the weekend as my daughter likes to be the waitress most weekend mornings! I understand everyone has a different tolerance for children which is why I am always upfront about the uniqueness of our B&B style (at least State side) including the fact that we accept children as guests. Our youngest guest so far has been six weeks old! We would love to host you or you along with your family and hope you decide to stay with us. Please do let me know if you have any questions and confirm your date when you decide. Our rates are posted on the room page of our website but if you give me the details of the nature of your visit it is possible we would reduce the rates. We give discounts for a variety of groups and local organizations so do let me know of any national or local affiliations.
Warmest Regards,
The Rhoads Family
